Tuesday Teaser

How it Rolls

By Lila Felix

"The place was packed and even if you weren't familiar with derby you could tell the amateurs from the pros. One girl who looked more clown than skater, lost her footing and did a backwards flapper dance before landing on her butt right in front of me. I reached out to help her up but she waved me away and said, "I think I'm just gonna stay here for a minute." And then she laid her head down, schooled by eight wheels."

Rain's Reveiws

Focus (The Crescent Chronicles)

By Alyssa Rose Ivy

Focus (The Crescent Chronicles, #2) Freshman year of college is hard even when you're not tied to the future king of a supernatural society.

Allie dives into college head first with Hailey as her roommate and the city of New Orleans as her backyard. As things within The Society heat up, Allie realizes that whether she’s with Levi or not, she's in far too deep to turn back.

Focus is the second installment in "The Crescent Chronicles" and it is just as good as the first. It is a really fast pace novel and I could NOT put it down. This book is 387 p. so it is over 100 p. longer than flight (book one of the trilogy). I read this book in two days and I was so upset when it was over! I don't want to pre-blow your mind too much so here's the basics.
Levi and Allie still trying to figure out their relationship. Allie is still trying to figure out all the stuff about the society and getting through her first year of college.  It is a whirlwind of emotions and events and she doesn't know how to handle it all.
Allie is still her stubborn and lovable self. She is handling everything in a realistic fashion and you can really relate to her! Levi is still the smoking hawt and persistent guy he was in the first book and you can't help but root for him! Hailey is still Hailey and the playful banter between all the characters keps it funny and lifelike. I cannot wait for found to be released July 16th.

Quotes:
"Bye, Jared."
"Catch you later Ali-gator."
"You did not just say that."
"I think I did."
"Oh my god, you do have a geeky side."
"What can I say? You must be a geek to bring it out of me."
"You know it."...

Rain's Reviews

The "Wake" trilogy

Wake (Dream Catcher, #1)   Fade (Dream Catcher, #2)   Gone (Dream Catcher, #3)
Goodreads Blurb: Janie Hannagan gets sucked into other people's dreams. It's an ability she always kept secret—until she met Cabel, and found herself with the best (secret) boyfriend ever. But Janie and Cabel are about to find out just how dark Janie's future as a Dream Catcher is... and whether Cabel will be a part of it.
The “Wake” trilogy is a story about Janie; a Dream Catcher. The book’s cover her Junior and Senior year of high school and tell of all the ups and down that come along. I am not going to say a whole lot about the books or the characters because I don’t want to give anything away. But I will say, I really liked these books. Janie was easy to love and understand. And the other characters were relatable and consistent as well. The writing style was simple and unique and caused the book to move at a fast pace that I really enjoyed.  These books had some harsh language but the romance stayed cleanJ.  The story really sucked you in a held you captive I read each one in a couple hours so they are a fairly quick read but still definitely worth your time! Happy reading!

~~QUOTES~~
“I lurve you, circus freak," Cabel says.
It almost hurts to hear him say that.
I lurve you, too, you big lumpy monster man," Janie says.
That hurts even more to say.”

Rain's Reviews

Flight- Alyssa Rose Ivy

Flight (The Crescent Chronicles, #1)
Description off Goodreads
This is a fun, funny, smexy, and totally paranormal romance! I went on a search for a para- romance to keep me entertained this weekend and the book definitively did its job. The story was set in New Orleans (the hub for all things paranormal). It centers on an an 18 year old girl who has moved to New Orleans for the summer before her first year at Princeton to work at her dads hotel. Allie has sworn off boys because of her past relationships ending badly. So when Allie and Levi meet though they have major chemistry she tries to keep her distance but this hot, smart, and persistent guy just won't take a no.
("Flight is most definitely a romance but it lives up to is YA/Teen title and stays clean:).)
I definitely connected with Allie right away, she was the ideal heroine.She is smart, has common sense, and stands up for herself. Sure there were a few "Why did you do that?" moments but nothing so drastic that kept me from loving her.(She was perfect compared to Luce from Fallen)
Levi is smart, hawt, edgy, stubborn and a little stupid (i know you weren't expected that last one were you? hehe). Levi was everything a great paranormal hero should be with just enough flaws to make him believable. Once he set his sight on Allie  he wasn't going to stop until he had her and I had to say I loved him for it!
Overall this book lived up to my expectations of being a quick, fun, and lovable paranormal romance and I will definitely be reading the second one soon (Oh yeah, MAJOR cliff hanger at the end hehe).

Teaser Tuesday

The Understorey by Fisher Amelie

The Understorey (The Leaving, #1) Description off Goodreads:
“Let’s start this place on nonexistent fire.”

“Promise.” She sucked in an excited breath.

We closed our eyes and I placed my feverish mouth to hers. Immediately, violent, zealous flashes of shimmering flames climbed to the furthest point, trailed like rain down the pitched ceiling and spilled down the walls, gathering at their feet, pools of fervent, bubbling, silvery liquid electricity, before evaporating into nothing.

Elliott Gray is incomplete, scrambling through the dark on his hands and knees, blindly feeling for the switch it would take to bring the peace he's forever been searching for.

Julia Jacobs is unhappy, missing a noticeable piece of her soul, a naked canvas with vivid paints at her disposal but no brush to assemble the vision.

At a young age, courtesy of an unknowing Elliott Gray, Julia tastes the burn of heartache and since then, has silently vowed to her heart that it would never be susceptible to such pain again but when Julia and Elliott discover they share a supernatural connection that's never been revealed before, Elliott makes it his life's goal to convince her they are fated. He knows, if she only gave him but one chance to prove himself, she would not be afraid but when Elliott's best friend Jesse Thomas turns out to be much more than meets the eye, it's all Elliott can do to hold on to his new love, while attempting to survive an enormous threat on their future.

~~Here is your Tuesday Teaser~~
She grabbed both of my hands and leaned into my ear, "I am embarrassed to say this too loudly or look into your face for that matter, but," She whispered, "will you kiss me again, the way did that night in your truck? For the next two hours and twenty- nine minutes? I promise we won't take it too far."
My throat began to burn for her and my heart had already started to race. My next move was the answer she was waiting for. I kissed her lips softly and peeled her coat off her shoulders. I continued to kiss her and did the same with my own jacket....

 ~~~
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)
City of Bones
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .
Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.
Have you heard? City of Bones has been made into a movie and is coming out later this year! Check out the brand new trailer here
Gone (Dream Catcher, #3)
Gone
I am not going to post the description on here because this is the third book in the Wake trilogy and so it contains some spoilers. I will post a review of all three once I finish the book and you'll have a brand new favorite book by the end of the week! I have loved the first two books and I am really enjoying this one as well. I will warn you there is some harsh language but so far the romance has stayed fairly clean (truth be told there has only been one scene that made me a little uncomfortable and so i skimmed over it). But that is all I am telling you ;) here is the link to the first book Wake: Goodreads
Dreamland Dreamland
Wake up, Caitlin
  1. Ever since she started going out with Rogerson Biscoe, Caitlin seems to have fallen into a semiconscious dreamland where nothing is quite real. Rogerson is different from anyone Caitlin has ever known. He's magnetic. He's compelling. He's dangerous. Being with him makes Caitlin forget about everything else--her missing sister, her withdrawn mother, her lackluster life. But what happens when being with Rogerson becomes a larger problem than being without him?
Wait For You
“Yes,” I whispered.
He didn’t say anything again for another long moment. Instead, his eyes moved over my face in a slow perusal. “You okay?”
I nodded.
His hand moved down and his thumb brushed the edge of my lip. I sucked in a sharp breath, becoming hyperaware of how close we were. Strange, I realized. I had wanted something to say to make the night disappear, but it wasn’t necessarily words I needed.
A touch, a single look was just as powerful.
I wasn’t thinking of anything but him in that moment. There was a freedom in that I hadn’t experienced before.
His gaze was centered on my lips and as soon as I realized that, my heart kicked into overdrive, sending my blood rushing. There wasn’t a lot of space separating us. All he’d have to do is move two or three inches and that would be it.
Then his gaze flicked up.
Cam closed the little distance between us before I had a chance to move away. My heart leapt in my chest at the thought that he might kiss me, that I was literally seconds away from my first kiss, and I had no idea what to do. My mouth felt funny after all the crying and I was sitting on a toilet, which probably wasn’t the most romantic of all settings.
But he didn’t kiss me. He pressed his forehead against mine and let out a ragged breath that smelled of mint. “You drive me insane sometimes.”
I drove myself insane. “Sorry?”
Cam pulled back a little, his eyes searching my face. “Don’t run off like that again, okay? I was worried ****less when I couldn’t find you and no one knew where you were.”
I almost apologized again, but apologies were really like wishes. There were an abundance of both in my life and neither really made a difference. So I did something I don’t even think I’d ever done, not even before.
Scooting forward, I pressed my lips to his smooth cheek. His eyes widened, and I inched back. Under his intense stare, I wondered if that had been the wrong thing to do.
Cam started to move forward and then stopped. His eyes were so large and they were truly beautiful, unique in the way the hue seemed to deepen and darken. “Avery?”
I swallowed. “Cam?”
He didn’t give me his lopsided grin or show off his one dimple. “Go out on a date with me.”
How It Rolls-LIVE
Despite the odds, Reed Wolfe is making it, by the skin of her teeth. Her dreams and aspirations will have to wait until she can get on her feet. Because right now she’s homeless and churning on a downward spiral.
Falcon Black is existing. Not living, not thriving, just jutting along a path. When he finds Reed, he can’t resist the urge to help her, lighten her load. But Falcon tends to go overboard, over the line, crossing boundaries he never thought he would and risking her trust in the process.
Can she accept his love or will it end up smothering her?
This Is LiLa Felix's (http://authorlilafelix.blogspot.com/) newest book! It went LIVE today :):)
"Why this school, any school, offered classes at seven a.m. was beyond me.  It was apparently beyond a lot of students too.  Most of them came to class in their pajama pants.  Girls could get away with it because it reminded guys that they had recently been in bed.  But guys—no.
          And a plus for me?  My seven a.m. teacher was from France.  And he spoke Frenglish.  Sometimes it was funny, but when he announced which chapters we should study and the names came out in English, but the chapter numbers came out in French, I wanted to strangle the sacre bleu out of him."
Falcon, How It Rolls
Amy & Roger's Epic Detour
Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew--just in time for Amy's senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she's always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road trip is Roger, the son of Amy's mother's old friend. Amy hasn’t seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she's surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she’s coming to terms with her father’s death and how to put her own life back together after the accident. Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps from the road--diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards--this is the story of one girl's journey to find herself.
~~~
Amy & Roger's Epic Detour was a pretty easy read. I enjoyed the writing style and I didn't even mind the flash backs which are usually really annoying to me. It was sweet and thoughtful and nice young adult chick-lit :). I do wish that there was a little more romance in it then there was but it wasn't a turn off. The book works through Amy's guilt, loneliness, grief. It was all really relatable and I could easily put myself in Amy's shoes. All the characters were well developed and consistent which is always nice;). I would most definitely recommend this book to you if you are looking for a quick, sweet and slightly funny read:)

Along for the Ride

Along for the Ride- by Sarah Dessen

It’s been so long since Auden slept at night. Ever since her parents’ divorce—or since the fighting started. Now she has the chance to spend a carefree summer with her dad and his new family in the charming beach town where they live.

A job in a clothes boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She missed out on all that, too busy being the perfect daughter to her demanding mother. Then she meets Eli, an intriguing loner and a fellow insomniac who becomes her guide to the nocturnal world of the town. Together they embark on parallel quests: for Auden, to experience the carefree teenage life she’s been denied; for Eli, to come to terms with the guilt he feels for the death of a friend

~~~
This book was very well written. From the blooming romance (that stayed completely PG), to the really funny moments and all the fights and sleepless nights in between. All the characters were really consistent and the story line and plot were flawless.
Now after saying all of that I have to admit Sarah Dessen isn't my absolute favorite author. The story seemed slow moving and I found myself skipping to the next paragraph to see if anything interesting was going to happen. But I blame most of that on my impatience,so. If you like stories about self discovery and getting through family drama with a little spritz of romance then I would say this book is a must read for you;).
Favorite moments:
"Okay, let's just slow down." She held up her hands, palms facing me. "First things first. What do you mean, you don't have a date?"
"Just that," I said, sitting down at the desk. "Jason bailed on me."
"Again?"
I nodded.
"When?"
"About twenty minutes ago."
"Oh, my God." She put her hand over her mouth: her expression was so horrified, like someone had died. "That's the worst thing ever."
"No," I said, swallowing. "It's actually not."
"No?"
I shook my head. "The worst thing is that right afterward, I marched right into the bike shop and asked Eli to go with me, and he said no."
She threw up her other hand, clapping it over the one already covering her mouth. "Holy crap," she said, her voice muffled. "Where does the bike come in?"
"I don't know," I said, waving my hand. "That part's kind of a blur.”
---
“She's a baby," Maggie told me. "Babies wear pastels."
"Says who?" I asked. ... "Society. The same society, I might add, that dictates that little girls should always be sugar and spice and everything nice, which encourages them to not be assertive. And that, in turn, then leads to low self-esteem, which can lead to eating disorders and increased tolerance and acceptance of domestic, sexual, and substance abuse.”
